Would you say that taxes would have to increase a whole lot to hire more deputies if Silver City and the rest of Grant County are ever going to get serious about its crime rate? I'd love to buy a house for ~ $340K and retire there; desert landscapes there are so amazingly beautiful, though poisonous wildlife seriously scares me. But if I'm more likely to get murdered or have my house burgled than I am on Long Island then I'm out of luck. But how likely do you think the Silver City area will ever get the crime rate a lot closer to the national average? Perhaps it’s all but hopeless if the cost of building and maintaining an expanded prison system would be prohibitive. And if the local economy can’t provide more and better paying jobs, drug smuggling and general crime rates won’t change much either. Is it all that hopeless?
